ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/FINANCE II

City of Lakewood 

The City of Lakewood is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director/Finance II. The selected candidate must possess a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices and auditing; must possess the ability to interpret documentation and possess strong management skills. The selected applicant should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or a related field and have a minimum of four (4) years of responsible related experience. Previous governmental sector experience is preferable, especially in performing GAAP conversion, CAFR preparation, budgeting, debt, investment, and treasury functions. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. After offer of employment, the selected candidate must pass a civil service exam and successfully complete a police background investigation and drug-screening exam. ACCOUNTS PAYABLE SUPERVISOR

The basic job duties include:

Supervising staff of five, including work assignments, time and attendance, performance evaluations, mentoring and staff development

Developing functional expertise for the Requisitions/Purchase Orders and Accounts Payable software modules

Managing daily workflow (estimated to be 500 – 2,000 payments per day, including paper warrants, direct deposits, direct disbursements and wires)

Communicating with the County Treasurer’s Office and with the bank

Processing imports of payments files from two other software systems

Processing special withholdings from vendor payments (tax levies, garnishments, child support)

Overseeing 1099 reporting to the IRS

Monitoring the vendor file

Troubleshooting problems

Documenting procedures for users and internal staff

Answering questions from vendors and County agencies

Gathering accounts payable data for the County’s annual financial report

The selected candidate will have at least three years’ of successful supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred with concentrated studies in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance. Experience with accounts payable or with a bank or other financial institution is required. Proficiency with WORD and Excel is required. Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills are necessary. The person should be a self-starter, able to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.

 This position reports to the Fiscal Services Administrator. The initial annual salary range is $45,000 - $55,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Send resume in Word format to:

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

City of Avon Lake

The City of Avon Lake is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Director of Finance. Under the direction of the Mayor and Council, the Finance Director shall be the Chief Fiscal Officer of the City. The successful candidate shall carry out all powers and duties as provided in the City Charter and as may be provided by ordinance.

The Director of Finance shall possess a working knowledge of the principles and modern practices of accounting following GAAP and GASB Rules, budgeting, finance, administration, management, departmental organization, supervision and training of departmental personnel, cost analysis, cash flow, forecasting, cash management, purchasing, investment practices and special municipal funds; and a working familiarity with the county, state and federal laws affecting Ohio cities.

The Director of Finance shall plan the work of the City’s finance department; train and supervise personnel; communicate effectively, both orally and in written reports; maintain effective working relationships with City officials, department heads and operating personnel and other governmental agencies; oversee the overall departmental management and programming, planning and analysis; coordinate and check the preparation of accurate financial statements and financial reports.

The Director of Finance shall work at the convenience of the Mayor and Council. He/she is required to attend all regular and special meetings and work sessions of Council.

The Director of Finance shall have graduated from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting or Finance Administration, including courses in public administration, business administration or economics.

Salary $70,000 +/- depending upon qualifications. Must be bondable, pass drug screening test, physical (paid by the City) and must be a resident at the date of appointment.
