$1,000 Traditional Student College Scholarships

Requirements

  • Ohio resident enrolled fulltime and entering at least the junior year of undergraduate study in an accredited Ohio college or university
  • Declared major in a field of study related to accounting, finance, budgeting or other similar area
  • Good academic standing 
  • Provide list of classes taken, grades (include grade scale) and current class schedule 
  • One page statement regarding public sector career plans & why you deserve this scholarship 
  • Completed application form
  • May include sealed letters of recommendation
(Ohio GFOA Board of Trustees family members are not eligible)

Scholarship awarded as tuition reimbursement to student. All applicants will be awarded a student membership in the Ohio GFOA for the (July-June) annual membership period.

$1,000 Continuing Education Scholarship

Requirements

  • Current member of Ohio GFOA
  • Minimum of two years employment in a government position (defined as direct government, school, library, non-private sector) preferably in finance, budgeting, accounting or related field
  • Enrolled in an accredited Ohio college or university, working toward a (Bachelor’s or beyond) declared degree in finance, budgeting, accounting or related area of study
  • Statement of future plans in the public sector 
  • Copy of jurisdiction’s tuition reimbursement policy or statement of supervisor if there is none
  • Sealed letter of recommendation from the applicant’s supervisor
  • May include other sealed letters of recommendation
Scholarship awarded as tuition reimbursement to student.

(Ohio GFOA Board of Trustees and Scholarship Committee members are ineligible.)

GFOA Advanced Government Finance Institute Scholarship Program

Requirements

  • The applicant shall be a current employee/official of an Ohio state or local governmental agency, a special district, authority, school district or
    regional/metropolitan council; the applicant may hold an elected or appointed position.
  • The applicant shall have had mid- or top-level management experience in government.
  • The applicant shall have a minimum of four (4) years experience in a government finance position of which two (2) were in a mid- or top-level management experience, such as a Finance Director, Auditor, Tax Commissioner, Township Clerk.
  • The applicant shall have had a minimum of three (3) years of continuous membership, in good standing, in the Ohio Government Finance Officers Association.
  • The applicant shall represent the Ohio Government Finance Officers Association and shall be prepared to fully participate in the Institute while in attendance.

Includes

The Ohio Government Finance Officers Association (Ohio GFOA) shall pay to GFOA the total $1,940 tuition cost on behalf of the scholarship recipient which includes housing, meals, classroom materials, and sponsored activities. The recipient will be responsible for their own transportation.

(Ohio GFOA Board of Trustees and Scholarship Committee members are ineligible.)

Annual Conference Scholarship ($900 Value)

Requirements

  • Must be an Ohio government employee
  • A letter on government stationary from the applicant’s supervisor stating why the individual is worthy of the scholarship, that the applicant is permitted to attend the entire conference and that there are no other training opportunities nor financing available from the entity
  • A statement from the applicant telling why they are deserving of the award

    Includes: 
    • Ohio GFOA annual conference registration
    • A two night hotel payment made directly to the conference hotel
    • $100 for travel expenses
    • Ohio GFOA membership for the remainder of the July-June annual membership period
